Microsoft Outlook - Blocked Images and Read-Only Meeting Body

Purpose

Unblocked Images and Read-Only Meeting Body.

Prerequisites

You should have Office 365 Outlook account and Microsoft Outlook installed on your PC/Mac.

Steps

If you're encountering the issue where images are blocked and the meeting body remains read-only in Microsoft Outlook Desktop, especially for calendar items from other senders, this is related to the Microsoft Outlook Spoofing Vulnerability released on August 8, 202312.

Here's what you can do to address this:

  1. Add the Edit Meeting Button:

    • The Outlook team has implemented functionality to edit received meetings with a new Edit Meeting button.
    • You can add this button to either the Quick Access Toolbar or the Ribbon.
    • Follow these steps based on your preference:
      • Quick Access Toolbar:
        • Switch to your calendar in Outlook Desktop and open a meeting item.
        • Select File, then Options, and choose Quick Access Toolbar.
        • Under Choose commands from, select Commands Not in the Ribbon.
        • Locate and select Edit Meeting, then click Add to add it to the Quick Access Toolbar.
        • Use the Move Up arrow to place it in the desired order.
        • Select OK to exit the customization.
      • Ribbon:
        • Switch to your calendar in Outlook Desktop and open a meeting item.
        • Select File, then Options, and choose Customize Ribbon.
        • Under Customize the classic ribbon, in the right column, select Appointment.
        • Create a new group (e.g., Edit Meeting).
        • Move the Edit Meeting button under Actions within the new group.
        • Keep the new group selected and choose Commands Not in the Ribbon on the left.
        • Locate and select Edit Meeting, then click Add to add it to the custom group.
    • Note that this feature is available only in Microsoft 365 subscription and is not planned for Office 2021, Office 2019, or Office 2016.
